Using an Owl Cam for Pop-up/Mobile Conferencing
As long as you have internet you have conferencing capabilities and the Owl Cam is a great tool to have when:
- You are in a room with no conferencing technology
- To make any open space a conference room/space
Owl is basically an all-in-one webcam, microphone and speaker. Rather than plugging in multiple devices you bring one device. Just like any other input or output device you can manage them within a Zoom Meeting or Zoom Settings.
Owl Cam "Rules"
-
Think ahead, give yourself 15-30 minutes to set up and test the cam w/ your laptop
- In addition to the Owl Cam itself you will need (included in the box):
- Power Supply
- USB-A to Micro USB cable
- USB-A to USB-C adapter (for laptops without a full USB-A port)
- Your laptop and power supply
-
If something is missing: open a Help Desk ticket
- Be patient:
- The 360 cam takes approximately 3 minutes to orient itself
- It may pan to the active speaker slowly during that time
Using the Owl Cam
- Plug in the power to the Owl
- Plug in the USB cable to Owl
- Press the power button, near the bottom of Owl
- The button will turn blue
- The Owl will "hoot" when powered up
- Plug the USB cable into the laptop
- Use the USB-C adapter as a go-between if needed
- Face Owl's eyes towards the middle of the room/space
- Start your Zoom Meeting
- Turn-off any custom backgrounds (highly recommended for best experience)
If some or all video/audio functions are not working through the Owl:
- Verify that Owl is your Audio and Video device
- Look for the little "carrot" in the Mute and Stop Video buttons in your Zoom Meeting
- Click them, if Owl is not selected then select it
